ELIZABETH MOULE, Partner

Ms. Moule’s career includes architecture, urbanism, real estate development, teaching, writing and civic involvement. She is a cofounder of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU), a national organization aimed at integrating aesthetic, social, environmental, economic and policy aspects of urbanism, and an emeritus member of its Board of Directors. She is the co-author of the CNU’s Canons of Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism, the companion to the Charter of the New Urbanism.

Ms. Moule is currently leading the design for an 80,000-square-foot, 180-bed residence hall for Scripps College in Claremont, California as well as a new neighborhood design in Winnipeg, Canada. Other recent projects include the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, a new art museum for Lancaster, California, a new streetscape design for downtown Lancaster, and Lago Mar, a 55-acre new town in central Panama.

Ms. Moule led the design of the LEED Platinum-rated west coast headquarters for the Natural Resources Defense Council in Santa Monica, California, which is among the greenest buildings in the world. She also was responsible for the design and restoration of the Vista del Arroyo bungalows on three acres in Pasadena; two high profile hotels in West Hollywood; and many campus projects at the University of Arizona, Scripps College and the Westridge School. After the ravages of Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Moule was a leading member of a national charrette to provide emergency urban design services for the reconstruction of Biloxi.

Ms. Moule chaired several awards juries including the Presidential Design Awards and, most recently, the 19th Annual Jury of the CNU. She is a frequently invited public speaker. Locally she has served on a Blue Ribbon committee to create new Green Guidelines for the City of Pasadena, serves as ongoing civic advisor for the City’s public arts program, and is a Pasadena Heritage Associate. Her work has been published in The Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, Dwell and Residential Architect. Ms. Moule has contributed articles to many books and periodicals, including The Los Angeles Times, The Nikkei Shimbun, The Los Angeles Forum, The Charter for the New Urbanism and The Seaside Tapes.

Elizabeth Moule received her Bachelors of Art from Smith College. She attended the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies and obtained a Master’s degree in Architecture from Princeton University. A California native, she is a founding partner of Moule & Polyzoides, Architects and Urbanists, and is a registered Architect in the State of California. Ms. Moule, with her partner, is a Seaside Prize recipient for 1998, the most prestigious national award in the field of urbanism.
