J. ANTONIO PEREZ, Senior Associate

Antonio Perez received his Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional planning from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and has 22 years of public and private sector experience in form-based codes, project management and urban design with community participation.

Mr. Perez is one of three Senior Associates in the firm, providing daily, hands-on leadership and management for municipal planning work. In his three years with Moule & Polyzoides, Mr. Perez has led the preparation of six specific plans for widely differing places and needs such as Downtown Cotati in Northern California’s Sonoma County and Downtown Santa Ana, a 135-block renaissance plan for three neighborhoods and three districts in a mature setting in north Orange County, California. He has also helped execute ten five-day charettes with multi-discliplinary teams comprising architects, technical consultants and stakeholders on behalf of public agencies. These collaborations have resulted in a variety of regulatory planning documents use by property owners and public agencies.

Prior to joining Moule & Polyzoides, Mr. Perez served as city planner for several California cities ranging from small towns to medium-size cities, directing three significant main street improvement projects that promoted significant revitalization in Fillmore, Oxnard and Camarillo.

Mr. Perez is frequently asked to speak on urban planning, form-based codes and specific plans, and from 2000 to 2004 he served as Subsection Director for the Ventura County Section of the APA, coordinating educational and informative sessions for its membership. Currently, Mr. Perez is finalizing research for his forthcoming book on the Mexican patio house, Case Studies from Lagos de Moreno, an architectural typology that in Mexico is commonly found in all building types and scopes, from haciendas and small commercial enterprises to major government structures.
