XIAOJIAN HE, Associate

Xiaojian He received his Bachelor’s of Architecture from Qinhua University and a Master's Degree in Architecture from the University of Southern California. He is an Associate with the firm specializing in architectural and urban design.

Mr. He first joined Moule and Polyzoides in 1992 has been involved in numerous groundbreaking housing and urban design projects with the firm. He was involved with the economic, traffic, and urban design areas of the Downtown Los Angeles Strategic Plan and he also played a very important role in the design of an innovative, environmentally sensitive housing project for the new town of Civano, near Tucson, Arizona.

Recent projects include the Downtown Cotati Specific Plan, a revitalization of this 7,500-person city’s center through a charrette-led specific plan and form-based code that articulates historically sensitive restoration and new development into its 54-acre, 28-block downtown; a specific plan for an 850-acre greenfield project at the edge of Visalia, California which includes large conservation areas as well as six small-scale, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods of varying densities; and a 300-acre specific plan for downtown Newhall in Santa Clarita, California, which will transform the original 1870s settlement into a transit-oriented district linked by commuter rail to downtown Los Angeles.

He has also participated in the design phases of the Southwest Campus Student Housing project, a 15.3-acre, medium-density neighborhood of student housing for the University of California, Los Angeles. This 1200-unit project included a commons building with retail, office, and meeting facilities. His work at Moule & Polyzoides also includes Mission Meridian, a low-rise, high-density housing and commercial mixed-use project in South Pasadena, California, and Del Mar Station, a mixed-use transiut-oriented development surrounding a light rail station in Pasadena, California.

He has served as project manager and designer for a number of projects, including a new building for Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California, the Porto Fino Hotel in Orlando, Florida, and a residential tower and a retail/office building in Beijing, China.

Mr. He is also an accomplished illustrator with compelling graphic technique. His drawings and renderings have appeared in such publications as Architecture Magazine, Architectural Record, and the Wall Street Journal, as well as the book, The New Urbanism, by Peter Katz.
