Located on a breakwater surrounding the Palm Deira, an extension to the heart of downtown Dubai, the Palm Deira Crescent Module separates the area’s private lagoons from the Persian Gulf. A grand boulevard with a rail transit line encompasses the entire Crescent, with local streets branching from the boulevard and providing access to the lagoons. Under the direction of Calthorpe & Associates, Moule & Polyzoides worked with Jon Worden Architects and Mack Architects to develop repeating yet varied housing prototypes along the entire length of the Crescent.
Moule & Polyzoides designed the four blocks between the grand boulevard and the two lagoons. Eight- to twelve-story double-loaded residential buildings with ground floor shops and restaurants line the grand boulevard while four- to six-story double-loaded buildings and three-story townhouses sit at ground level, facing the lagoon. Parking is located at the center of the block and is completely lined by shops, lofts or townhouses.
