A new 45-acre city center adjacent to the international airport in Mauritius, Plaisance Aeroville comprises two distinct places: a mid-rise retail and office campus and a low-rise mixed-use village. The retail and office area, closest to the airport, is centered on a main street and a linear green to the east. To the west, the mixed-use village is centered on the existing and restored creek that extends into a rectangular public park. The national highway that leads to the airport on the north will be transformed into a boulevard with a frontage road facing the site; retail uses will face directly onto it. The buildings are designed as simple concrete frames with a number of devices such as screens and porous walls that enable constant cross ventilation.
