Stone Avenue/Speedway Boulevard Gateway Project
Tucson, Arizona
Client: City of Tuscon
This project involved a two-day workshop focused on enhancing a five-mile stretch of the Stone Avenue Corridor in Tucson. A pivotal intersection at Speedway Boulevard was identified as an urban gateway to the surrounding areas and distinct scenarios were generated to define the character of the intersection, including the exploration of urban design and traffic circulation and volume issues
The project also analyzed the character of the surrounding neighborhood structure and suggested how to develop the empty sites located along the corridor through a typological infill strategy . The work also laid out a basic armature of frontage design codes that could direct future infill development.
This project investigated the design of an intersection between two arterial roads to lessen congestion while generating a new gateway into downtown Tucson.
